Minnesota State Fair Scholarship Program

Formally known as the Hallberg Scholarship and designed to recognize the significant contributions of the State Fair Farm Boys' Camp, later Youth Camp, over a span of 82 years. Up to 20 scholarships of $1,000 each will be made available to young adults from greater Minnesota or enrolled in an agriculture program in 2013. A qualified committee will review applications and select the recipients. Announcement of the recipients will be made on the first Friday of state fair at the 4-H Beef Championship held in the Coliseum.
Mr. Hallberg served at every camp from 1939 until his death in 1964. As president of the Camp Alumni Association, his name adds distinction to the program and, in return, signals the fair's genuine regard and affection for the thousands of participants, staff members and adult supervisors who gave so generously of their time, energy and love over so many years.
Scholarship guidelines
- Application must indicate anticipated participation in the current year’s
Minnesota State Fair. - Rural residency or enrollment in an agriculture program required.
- Applicant must be a high school graduate as of the current year’s fair.
- Applicant must be attending or planning to attend a post secondary school in the
current year. No restrictions as to course of study or choice of school. - Application and supporting materials must be submitted in the same envelope,
incomplete applications or applications with missing materials will not be
considered. - Completed applications and supporting materials must be received on or before
4:30 p.m., August 9, 2013. - Ben C. Hallberg Scholarship recipients and previous Minnesota State Fair
Scholarship recipients are ineligible to enter.
A qualified committee will review applications and select the recipients. Winners will be announced:
- Friday, Aug. 23 at the 4-H Beef Championship held in the Lee & Rose Warner
Coliseum, and - Monday, Sept. 2 at the FFA Awards Program held at the AgStar Arena..
