There are applications for some standing committees.
Standing Committee Reports
Agility -
Karl R.
Possible rule
changes have been discussed to pattern 4-H more after USDAA. If there
were rule changes they wouldn't require every county to make equipment
changes. April meeting - minutes posted on agility listserv.
Karl R. read the minutes. Discussed using the certificates that were
used last year. The committee will need to have double the amount
of plaques for the State Show. Also discussed using two rings to
speed things up. Can equipment be kept out over night? The
fairgrounds is public and they do have security, however no guarantees
will be made for things left out. Only 4-Hers participating in agility
at the State Show will be able to participate in games.
Agility Judges Training has been cancelled due to lack
of registrations.
Finance -
Karl R.
Requested
that we wrap up the expenses from the State Show by the November meeting.
Judges Certification -
Karl O.
Set for Beltrami
Co Fairgrounds, October 12-13, 2002. Will be added to the website
next week. Handouts with the information were passed out. Will
be located in central or southern MN sometime in the spring probably.
Who has the list of which judges need to attend a seminar to remain certified?
Who keeps track of this?
Obedience/Showmanship- Marlene
Handouts were
passed out and the changes were walked through. Areas to be looked
at further: Veterans class, consider adding teeth to the grooming
section, consider taking away the two year limit for staying in a class
from Graduate Beginner and Novice as well (allow to stay in class until
receive a blue ribbon at the county or state show), suggested having Novice,
Open, and Utility have same points per exercise as in the AKC. The
Obedience/Showmanship committee has blessings from PDC to go ahead and
continue with the scoring and scoresheets based on the example presented.
Brace - clarify and restate - "two dogs identified"; "you cannot use a
third dog for brace." Define "trained and/or shown at the Graduate
Beginner level" - What is our definition of "Graduate Beginner level."
Add in a statement about how many weeks of training they may or may not
have. Broad Jump - add in 26 inches and define which this falls under
(two or three hurdles) Please email the listserv of changes, typos,
etc.
Show - Cherrye
The committee met two weeks ago. Currently working to get judges
- making changes to the initial letter and judge's contract to be mailed
out. Judges will be judging two days and will be offered a hotel
room for Saturday night no matter where they live. Friday night will
be only for those 100 miles away. The judging fees will stay the
same this year and can be evaluated next year. We added the category
that if a judge goes over 8 hours they will be paid $125.
Awards: There are additional classes with age groups so need more
plaques. The plaques will include a photo and be slightly large,
thus costing more money ($22 approximately). The plaques will not
include the class, but signs will be made for each class to be put in the
photo. Each PDC member will need to secure four plaque donors.
Recommended making a list of all the kennel clubs and breed clubs to mail
a standard letter to all donors. Nothing was changed regarding the
ribbons. Proposed a change with the awards ceremony - after each
class the judge would make comments but then do the ceremony on the stage
so the judge can start the next class. A similar format would be
set up for the agility participants. Recommended not making agility
certificates to make all areas be awarded the same awards.
Agility - senior and advanced will both be run on "senior" day only and
not be split into junior and senior. In 2001, there were 17 Intermediate
dogs, 12 Senior dogs, and 5 Advanced dogs. These things can be changed
in future years if needed.
Recommend that the Judges certification committee should propose a way
to handle judge evaluations at all shows. Those who are
coordinators of areas will get hotel rooms available. Volunteers
should be able to get a free meal.
M/S/C (Karl O./Kelly) to allow $200
for door prizes and awards for the cleanup area raffle.
M/S/C (Kelly/Karl O.) to accept
the current University mileage of $0.365 for the judges.
M/S/C (Marlene K./Brenden) to have
each PDC member and each standing (or sub-) committee member secure three
plaque donors for this year and begin to compile a list for next year.
M/S/C (Leona/Karl R.) to allow
a 4' x 8' backdrop ($200) for photos at the State Show along with the class
signs to be purchased.
M/S/C (Karl O./Jeff) to approve
the new show committee overview with the following changes made:
add "supplies" to the list of things to be ordered under the responsibilities
of the show committee and change "establish" quotas to "propose" quotas
under the areas of authority.
Other
There was a discussion on
having state-wide e-mail list to present information. County dog
project leaders would be able to be on this listserv. Originally
the horse project asked for one extension person and one county leader.
Would need to look into who could be the list moderator. Would like
to have more information about how the horse project set their listserv
up. I.E. shows posted, ask questions, etc.
A reminder that all standing
committee minutes should be cc'd to the PDC listserv.
2002 Meeting Dates
Saturday, September 21 - 30 minutes after the completion
of the show.
(Proposed
changes from the Obedience/Showmanship Committee need to be sent out to
the PDC by September 1st.)
Saturday, November 9 - 10:30 a.m. ~ St. Paul campus
M/S/C (Karl O./Jeff) to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted:
Kelly Edgar, Secretary
