Dog Issues Survey -
Brad
Brad presented the results of the dog project issues
survey. There were 1925 surveys sent out to 4-H members using the
data from 4HPlus! software. There were 355 returned (19%).
It was suggested to put the results on the web or distribute them to every
county extension office. After much discussion, it was decided to
revisit the issue of how to proceed with the results later in the agenda.

Supersession - Dorothy/Nancy
Neither Dorothy nor Nancy were present to provide a report.
Tammy reported that Nancy has contacted her to confirm the dates of June
14-16 at the Faribault County Fairgrounds in Blue Earth. Tammy needs
the complete information for the web by February 8th.
Standing Committee Reports
Agility - Karl O.
A committee
membership application had been developed for Tammy to place on the
web. A judges training is set for April 27-28 at the
Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan. They still need some volunteers.
Tish Jensen is willing to help. The committee is reminded that a
youth development piece presented by Brad needs to be inlcuded in the program.
Finance - Karl R.
We're doing
well financially. Timeliness is important so that we know our balance.
Judges Certification - Leona
(secretary)
There was
a brief committee meeting before the PDC meeting today. There are
5 people ready to be submitted for certification.
M/S/C (Leona/Karl
O.) to accept the following people as certified judges:
Dorothy Brouwers - Obedience & Showmanship
Jocelyn Brouwers - Obedience & Showmanship
Rhonda Weis - Showmanship

to accept the following people as provisional judges, assuming they meet
the age requirement:
Tess DeBlieck - Obedience & Showmanship
Katie Dombeck - Obedience & Showmanship
Cassie Drake - Obedience
Stephanie Fenton - Obedience & Showmanship
Tara Fletcher - Obedience
Nancy Holmseth - Obedience & Showmanship

Colleen Oestreich - Obedience & Showmanship
Karl Oestreich - Obedience & Showmanship
Jessica Sedivy - Obedience & Showmanship
Beth Smetana - Obedience & Showmanship
Darlene Smetana - Obedience & Showmanship
Shannon Weis - Showmanship
The committee
needs to develop a complete list with names and addresses so that it can
be posted on the web for counties to access. The committee needs
to appoint a new chair. Karl O. will serve as the acting chair.
There are four open spots on the committee (one of each: certified
judge, senior judge, volunteer, and youth). Application form are
available on the web. The current committee should work at recruiting/identifying
potential new members. The committee is looking at a judges training
for obedience and showmanship in the fall. They
also presented some policy issues for the certification process.
M/S/C (Leona/Marlene)
that certified judges must attend a seminar every three years to remain
certified. If this is not met, they become a provisional judge until
they attend another seminar. After a seminar is attended they return
to the same level of judge that they previously held. Provisional
judge status may only be held for three years, after which the person must
reapply. If three apprenticeships are failed, that person must reapply
and attend another judges training.
Obedience/Showmanship - Marlene
The committee
needs to make the transition to the new committee structure of two people
from each of the five districts plus three additional youth, one obedience
judge, one showmanship judge, and one extension staff person. Applications
have been received from: Kelly Edgar, Kathy Francis, and Marlene
Keller. Application forms are available on the web.
M/S/C (Karl
O./Laurie) to accept Kathy Francis (showmanship judge), Marlene Keller
(C adult), and Kelly Edgar (SE adult) as members of the committee.
State Dog Show
Brad opened the discussion by explaining the possibilites
for the State 4-H Dog Show if it were held in the 4-H Building at the State
Fairgrounds. The 4-H building is available the last two weekends
in September. Rental costs are approximately $1000 per day to rent.
St. Cloud has been $1000 for both days. Food service and the dorms
would be available for us to use. The discussion continued around
the survey and that 88.1% of people who responded would prefer to have
one show. There was additional discussion around housing, limiting
the number of classes and/or dogs, number of days, and class size.
If at all possible, it is hoped that there would not need to be quotas/limits
this first year.
M/S/C (Marlene/Vanessa) to hold one state dog show the
last weekend in September in the 4-H Building at the State Fairgrounds
and not hold regional shows for 2002.
Because of the discussion/debate it was decided to vote
anonymously using paper ballots. Results: 10 yes 2 no
We will hold a Special PDC meeting in two weeks (February
16, 2002-10:00 a.m.) to discuss how we can move forward with the state
show in this manner. The state show will be the only aganeda item.
Hopefully we can meet in Coffey Hall on the St. Paul Campus.
State Fair Dog Project Showcase
This event is a way to promote the 4-H dog project at
the state fair in the 4-H Building during 4-H Livestock Weekend (Aug. 22-24)
Jan Brule volunteered to organize a showcase on Saturday, August 24.
Leticia Jensen, Cathy Steinmetz, and Leona Hellesvig are willing to help.
Other
Sherburne Co. is interested in hosting the 2004 and 2005
Supersessions.
M/S/C (Karl O./Tish) to clarify the rule that 4-H members may only show a maximum of two dogs - they may not use a third dog for Brace Obedience.

June 14, 2002 - 5:00 p.m. at Supersession in Blue Earth
