Ground rules - Brad
There is no set agenda for this meeting, however we do
have goals to accomplish today. Discussed survey and the results
that were collected. The results come from members of the dog project
throughout the state. At the last PDC meeting, it was voted to move
to one state show and eliminate the regional shows.
Since the last meeting... - PDC members
-
Concerned about representation of state in the returned surveys
-
Suggested that the changes are coming too fast; discussed
timing element
-
Concerned with keeping opportunities open for kids
-
Discussed requiring the kids to be in 6th grade to show at
the state level
-
Counties need to train members and parents how to be stewards
-
Suggest having more county invitationals - questioned liability
issues
Givens - Brad
Brad, Laurie, and Tammy met last week to formulate some
of the "givens". Brad had a powerpoint presentation and 6 handouts
for the committee to review. Topics included the following:
-
Layout of the 4-H Building. The building can easily
accomodate 10 rings.
-
Dorms
-
Mandatory adult in charge for each county sending participants
-
Ratio = 1 adult per 10 kids; not necessarily the same sex;
must be on grounds; curfew - 11:00 p.m.
-
Paid dorm staff
-
Friday/Saturday night (2 each side) = $960.00 total night
cost
-
Fri/Sat/Sun day (1 each side) = $560.00 total day cost
-
Nighttime Security
-
Front door - $220.00 (11 hours)
-
Dog Crating Area - $180.00 (9 hours)
-
Total Staffing Cost = $1920.00 (Dorm and Security)
-
Food Service - expect income
-
Formula for determining potential scheduling: 4-H Judging
in obedience is about seven dogs per hour (example: 30 entries in
a class would take four hours to judge) and showmanship has more "variables"
so maybe six to eight dogs per hour by the time you figure in call backs.
Classes can be broken into smaller groups (like weight classes in the market
livestock shows) like Beginner A-4th Grade, Beginner A-5th Grade, etc.
-
Split junior & senior over two days
-
Obedience and Showmanship samples include
-
1000 entries
-
more than 50 entries in class = broken by grade into 5 classes
-
20-50 entries in a class = broken by grade into 2 classes
-
800 entries
-
600 entries
-
more than 50 entries in class = broken by grade into 2 classes
-
49 or less entries in a class = 1 class
-
Agility - fewer numbers per class per day because of split
into juniors and seniors.
-
Dog Show Management - discussed people required to organize
the show
Break Out Discussion on Obedience & Showmanship Proposal
-
Champion of age groups within the class - ie. One champion
for Beg. A. Jr.
