2013 State 4-H Meat Goat Conference

For 4-H meat goat families, or those considering raising meat goats. Come learn from 4-H State Meat Goat Committee members and leaders in the meat goat project at this half-day conference at either of the sites offered. More info

  • March 23, 2013 (morning) - Jim Simon Arena, Cannon Falls
  • April 27, 2013 (morning) - R & J Horse Arena, Verndale (Note: This is a change from the original date of April 13.)
  • Cost - Adults: $10—Youth: $5—Families of 3 or more: $5/person

2013 State 4-H Meat Goat Judges' Training

Interested in becoming a meat goat judge, or improving your skills and understanding of what characteristics to look for in an excellent meat goat? Boer and wether goat judge, Bruce Lott, is coming to Minnesota to conduct this training in Cannon Falls in March. State Meat Goat Committee members will use Bruce's training materials to conduct the April training in Verndale. This training is open to adults, 21 years of age and older. More info

Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics Training

All youth participating as a State Fair 4-H livestock exhibitor in beef, dairy, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbit, meat and dairy goat, and lama must have completed the Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics workshop. Certification is good for three fair seasons. The level of training required is determined by the grade of the youth at the time the training takes place.

4-H Regional & State Project Bowls

Project Bowls are an exciting way for youth to explore a project area. Teams compete in quiz competitions with questions about specific project areas. Project Bowls are available for Dairy, Dog, General Livestock (Beef, Sheep & Swine), Horse, Poultry, Rabbit and Wildlife projects. Winners of the Regional Project Bowls advance to the State Bowl. Minnesota State Fair

4-H plays a pivotal role in youth development and public education at the Minnesota State Fair. Over 7,000 4-H youth have the opportunity to interact with the public and educate fairgoers through 4-H exhibits, demonstrations, performances, and 4-H promotion. More info
