4-H Judges Certification Committee Overview

A committee of the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project

Purpose/Areas of Aurthority: The purpose of the Judges Certification Committee is to:
  • Certify Judges - Establish requirements and carry out procedures for certification
  • Train - Present to all potential and provisional judges training for certification.
  • Maintain Judges List - Create and maintain a list of all judges:
    • Agility, Obedience, and Showmanship
    • Provisional, Certified, Senior, and Master
Membership:  The Judges Certification Committee Membership - those with voting privileges - is made up of the following individuals:
  • three judges certified at any level
  • three Senior (and/or Master) Judges
  • three volunteers who are not certified judges (they do not have to be a member of the State Dog PDC)·
  • two youth
From the above listed membership, a Chair (or Co-Chairs), Vice Chair, and Secretary will be selected.  The committee must have one representative from the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Committee (PDC).  The committee must represent each region of Minnesota with a minimum of one person from each the Northern, Central, and Southern Regional Show areas.  The committee must represent all current aspects of the dog project with a minimum of one judge representing agility, one judge representing obedience, and one judge representing showmanship.
Selection: The members of the Judges Certification Committee will be appointed by the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee.  Staggered terms will be for three years.  Volunteers will submit an application to the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee.
Meetings: The Judges Certification Committee will meet at least once per year - more if needed.  Meetings date(s) will be announced at the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee meeting prior to the date of the committee meeting.  Agenda items for the meeting may be submitted to the committee 30 days in advance.  Additional meetings as needed and can be via teleconferencing, e-mail, or in person.  If in person anyone would be allowed to attend the meetings as a 'silent observer' and at the end of the meeting ask questions.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Judges Certification Committee include:
  • presenting certification process details and changes to the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee (PDC) for approval.
  • organizing and conducting judges training workshops.
  • organizing and conducting judges certification workshops.

To apply to be a member of the Minnesota State 4-H Dog Project Development Committee (PDC) you must complete an application.  The application is two pages and requires the signature of your county Extension Educator if you are a 4-H volunteer or two references if you are not a 4-H volunteer.
