Meet the Youth Work Institute Staff

Dale Blyth
Dale Blyth provides leadership for the Youth Work Institute, a joint venture of Extension and the College of Education and Human Development. These efforts are focused on making a measurable difference in the quality, availability, and impact of nonformal community learning opportunities for Minnesota young people.

Deborah Moore is the director of the YWI and a state faculty member for the Extension Center for Youth Development. As YWI administrative lead, she is responsible for the statewide delivery of YWI learning. As a faculty member, she teaches, writes and conducts research on issues and ideas related to program quality.

Kari A Robideau

Kari A. Robideau is an Extension educator in educational design and development and teaching faculty for the YWI where she focuses on teaching and scholarship. She has program leadership in distance education including the development of Youth Work Matters Online.

Rebecca Saito

Rebecca Saito is a senior research associate and a state faculty member for the YWI and the Extension Center for Youth Development. She has focused her passion and work over the past 25 years on deepening our understanding of programs and strategies that impact the well being of youth. Her current work centers on youth engagement, formal and informal mentoring, youth as community resources, and program evaluation, which she advances through community-based research, teaching, learning, and program development.

Anne Stevenson
Anne Stevenson is an Extension educator in educational design and development and teaching faculty for the YWI based in the Andover Regional Extension Office. Her current work is in the design and development of programs, learning environments. Her teaching strategies focus on inquiry-based science learning in non-formal settings, as well as program planning.  She gives program leadership to the MN 4-H Science Team.

Joyce Walker

Joyce Walker is a professor at the Extension Center for Youth Development focused on the education and professional development of adults who work with and on behalf of young people in nonformal learning settings. Her faculty role with the youth development leadership M.Ed. program in the College of Education and Human Development reflects her interest in organizational approaches to youth development, youth worker expertise and the design of quality adult learning experiences.

Kate Walker

Kate Walker is a research associate and a state faculty member for the Extension Center for Youth Development. She conducts applied research and evaluation on youth development practice and programs. Her work centers on understanding, evaluating and elevating youth work practice.

Andrea Jasken Baker has been in the field of youth and community development for more than 20 years. She works as a consultant and builds capacity with organizations through planning support, project management, and training.

Mary Laeger-Hagemeister is a consultant with L-H Consulting with over 20 years of experience with the Extension system at Penn State University and most recently, the University of Minnesota. In addition to developing curricula and teaching topics ranging from parenting to leadership and facilitation, Mary has served as a community coach.

Stephanie Love is the co-founder and director of Positive Energy Outdoor (ed) Ventures, a Duluth-based outdoor adventure program.  She is a High/Scope Educational Research Foundation Youth Development Trainer and has extensive youth development and outdoor adventure expertise, with more than 15 years of experience in the field.

Pam McBride is  a youth engagement consultant and trained facilitator with the MN Technology of Participation and leads the Youth As Facilitative Leaders training with community organizations and schools in collaborative building, programming and finding the newest ways to engage youth and adults and together.

Colleen McLaughlin is the managing director of Phosphorescence, Inc. and a trainer and consultant with 15 years of experience as a nonprofit  youth program director, Peace Corps volunteer and fundraiser.  Colleen enjoys working with program staff, managers, and directors to create change through: improving program quality, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing evaluation, and creating development plans.

Tom Miller is an independent consultant with 20 years of experience in youth development, philanthropy, K-12 education, and nonprofit leadership.
