Designed to educate consumers on the problem of foodborne illness and motivate them to take basic sanitation and food handling steps that will greatly reduce their risk of foodborne illness. It is a user friendly and handy refrigerator magnet wheel full of food safety information. For consumers, Extension educators.
How to use the food safety wheel
Side one: guide to cooking and storing meat, poultry, and eggs
- Hold onto the maroon outside section of the wheel.
- Using your thumbs, move the gold inside circle. Line up the large maroon triangle to the short white line in the outer maroon food section that matches the food being prepared.
What you will discover
- The Food thermometer should read window will show the degrees in Fahrenheit necessary to prepare food safely.
- The Recommended storage times window provides refrigerator and freezer storage recommendations for best quality.
- The Recipe checklist provides helpful safety hints in preparing your favorite recipes.
Side two: seven steps to food safety
- Hold onto the maroon outside section of the wheel.
- Using your thumbs, move the gold circle. Match the white indicator triangle to the food safety step of interest (example: Safe serving).
