What is MFNN?
The Minnesota Food and Nutrition Network (MFNN) is a member-based organization that builds and strengthens alliances between agencies and professionals focused on delivering nutrition programs that target persons eligible for USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
MFNN’s mission is to promote consistent, research-based nutrition messages through a coordinated network to help low-income Minnesotans enjoy healthful lifestyles. The Network, comprised of over forty organizations, includes state and local government agencies, industry and nonprofit organizations, and interested community members. MFNN welcomes agencies and individuals who provide nutrition services to join the network and share resources to create community-based initiatives that focus on positive behavior changes around food.
MFNN’s goals are to:
- Develop effective long-term nutrition education programming.
- Advocate for the consumer’s ability to select and prepare healthy foods.
- Build and sustain a cohesive, visible, inclusive, and productive health promotion network.
MFNN members have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate and network with a diverse group of professionals from across Minnesota through quarterly events and an electronic emailing list.
- Learn about programs, best practices, and funding opportunities for reaching limited-income audiences with nutrition promotion messages.
- Access funding to become a subcontractor for nutrition promotion projects.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, including CPEs.
MFNN is part of USDA’s SNAP Education program and is a collaborative effort between the Minnesota Department of Human Services, University of Minnesota Extension and numerous local agencies and programs. The program is funded by a SNAP grant from USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service.
