InSNC
Individualized Situation-based Nutrition Counseling (InSNC) is a curriculum that helps dietitians and nutritionists tailor counseling to prevent age-related weight gain in midlife women 40-60 years in age.
In previous research women tended to have four to five “eating occasions,” or times they consumed food or beverages, per day. Within each eating occasion, women have a set of needs or goals they are trying to meet. These situation-based needs, referred to as “need states,” vary by individual and are situation-specific. Therefore, it is helpful to tailor counseling to address the need states individual women experience most often.
InSNC contains tools that will help you determine the need states that are experienced most often by the woman you are counseling. Within each need state unit, educational materials will help you counsel women to meet their needs with healthier alternatives; increase intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grain, and low fat dairy foods; and reduce fat and added sugar intakes. The goal of the InSNC curriculum is to improve women’s eating behaviors and energy balance over time to prevent weight gain.
