Frequently Asked Questions

How long will I have access to the workshop?

Once registered for Using the Internet for Parent Education, you will be able to access the workshop from now through April 30, 2013.

Do I need to complete the workshop all at once?

You can go in and out of the course as often as you like. Since this is an online course, it can be completed at your own pace. Be sure to keep the Internet ID and password you receive when you register.

How much time can I expect to spend on the workshop?

The time spent on the course will vary by individual. You can expect to spend approximately three hours at your computer going through the course. Additional time can be spent looking journal article summaries and other resources as well as exchanging comments on the discussion board or discussing questions with co-workers.

How can I make the most of this online workshop?

Besides accessing the presentations and the activities, you can get more out of the workshop by going back to the threaded discussions periodically. You can continue to post your responses throughout the “open” period of the workshop. You can also make a point of discussing the questions that are suggested with your coworkers and other professionals.

Can I receive documentation for the time spent in the workshop?

Yes! After you have completed the workshop, you will be asked to complete an online evaluation. After completing the evaluation you will be directed to a webpage to print off a certificate of participation.

Help! I’ve never participated in an online course before.

Moodle, the courseware used for this course, is easy to use. Once you get into the course, everything should be self explanatory. If you want more information on Moodle, watch an online orientation or see the online user guide information that is available. These links will always be available from within the course, in the left navigation bar.

That being said, it should be noted that online courses are not for everyone. You need a reliable computer, specific software, and internet access. It also helps if you are generally comfortable with computers and being online. Be assured that help will always be available once you register for the course. If you are having Moodle issues, you can send an email to moodle@umn.edu.
