Twenty years of event management education experience combined with a 2012 program revision create the new online training that is engaging and convenient for you or your volunteers and staff! Offered completely online, this comprehensive program provides event staff, festival organizers, and volunteers with the essential knowledge and organizational tools to successfully operate and sustain events as well as the community spirit associated with them.
The foundation of festival and event planning is presented in engaging online sections with narrated presentations, videos, practical advice from experts, essential readings, emerging research and best practice examples. From site planning to succession planning and marketing to media selections, this course shares what you need to create, sustain or enhance your festival or event.
A 'timely topic' completes our 6-week course: in spring 2014, greening events is the topic.
The one-week timely topic session will discuss the event industry's approach to sustainability, the practices that events large and small have taken to facilitate sustainability, the production of a "zero waste" event, and invites you to develop a toolkit (or update what you already have!) that your event can use to implement sustainability practices. The course is taught by Xinyi (Lisa) Qian, Tourism Center, with a guest contributor to be announced.
Interested in the certificate? Complete the course and then submit a critical analysis that applies what you learn in the course to an event of your choice within three months of course completion. Detailed information about the critical analysis can be found here Certificate Requirements.
