With over 92,000 horses and 14,000 horse farms, Minnesota's horse industry contributes $1 billion to the state's economy each year.
University of Minnesota Extension pulls together experts from several different disciplines to help horse owners with issues ranging from horse health to nutrition to facilities management to genetics.
The horse team meets three times a year with the Equine Advisory Committee and works cooperatively with the Minnesota Horse Council, equine industry, breed organizations, saddle clubs, and horse owners. Primary programs include regional horse owner programs, field days, a monthly e-newsletter, quarterly webinars, factsheets, social media, and this website.
